For more than 100 years, Ulmer & Berne has been successfully representing clients in claims involving premises liability, product liability, employer liability, professional liability, motor vehicle accidents, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage claims, and wrongful death actions. We assist clients in ensuring that all claims are properly investigated, effectively mediated and, where appropriate, resolved fairly and equitably. When necessary, our experienced litigators are prepared to vigorously defend clients in the courtroom.

The firm has an experienced team of liability defense attorneys who have both settled cases through alternative dispute resolution as well as tried thousands of general liability claims around the country. Ulmer & Berne has the resources and expertise to handle large matters involving complex legal and factual issues, severe time constraints, multiple related cases, and numerous parties and depositions. We work with clients to develop overall work plans that effectively evaluate the potential liability and the exposure for damages, the need for and likelihood of litigation, the probability of success, the extent of discovery required, the possibility of alternative dispute resolution and any other recommendation concerning strategy-related issues. We take a leading role in managing large dockets of cases for our clients and have extensive experience in developing and working under multiple case management plans.

As a result of Ulmer & Berne’s representation as national counsel to numerous manufacturers and retailers as well as other entities, our attorneys have developed extensive experience in the role of national counsel in a wide range of litigation and commercial settings. That experience includes the ability to review and prioritize incoming claims filed against our clients, to prepare and implement (in conjunction and consultation with our clients and their insurers and/or third party claims administrators) a strategy for resolving such claims in the most cost-effective and timely manner, to work with and coordinate the efforts of local counsel to assist in the implementation of that strategy, and, when necessary, to litigate such claims through pre-trial discovery proceedings, trial and appellate review. In addition, that experience includes the ability to fashion individual and global settlement strategies to avoid the costs and hardships of litigation. We believe that the combination of this varied experience provides our clients with a unique and unmatched opportunity to coordinate and resolve multiple claims in a manner that is both cost-efficient and protective of our clients’ needs and public image.
