Ulmer Ranked in the Inaugural Edition of Benchmark Litigation Labor & Employment

Two partners also recognized as Labor & Employment Stars

Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce that the firm and two of its partners have been recognized in Benchmark Litigation’s inaugural edition of Labor & Employment. This new, specialized study was released in response to an ever-increasing demand to analyze the labor and employment litigation field, and honors the best and brightest law firms and partners who stand out in their labor and employment practices.

Benchmark ranked Ulmer in Ohio as a leading labor and employment firm, commenting in its editorial about the practice: “Ulmer & Berne is equipped with a premier group of lawyers dedicated to handling a wide variety of labor and employment issues on behalf of employers and management. The practice offers its expertise for companies facing EEOC and NLRB proceedings and lawsuits in district and federal courts, including both collective and class actions, as well as single plaintiff disputes. Lawyers in the practice have extensive experience litigating and advising clients with issues related to all forms of discrimination, wage and hour issues, labor practices, trade secrets, non-compete, restrictive covenants, and claims filed under various related acts including the ADA and FLSA.”

Partners William D. Edwards and Mark D. Katz were also named as Labor & Employment Stars. The partners included in this special edition were selected for their individual accomplishments in the courtroom and their ability to handle high-stakes and precedent-setting cases.

“Every day Bill and Mark provide high-quality counsel to employers dealing with complex employment and labor matters,” said Michael N. Ungar, Chair of Ulmer’s Litigation Department. “Their substantial experience, deep understanding of the law, and proven litigation skills are exceptional. They are both incredibly deserving of this recognition, and we at Ulmer are very proud of their achievements.”

Edwards serves as Chair of Ulmer’s Employment & Labor Practice Group, and represents clients in all aspects of the employment relationship. As an experienced trial lawyer, he has broad expertise representing employers in matters ranging from EEOC collective action litigation to single-plaintiff wrongful termination claims. Edwards also assists clients in taking proactive steps to stay out of the courtroom through, among other efforts, advice and training on employee disciplinary issues.

Katz has wide-ranging experience in employment and labor law, having served in both the public and private sectors. He previously worked for the U.S. Department of Labor prosecuting federal labor law violations and served as in-house counsel handing all employment and labor matters for a major steel manufacturer. His insight into occupational safety and health matters, wage-hour law, labor arbitration, and collective bargaining makes him a valuable asset to Ulmer’s clients.

The recognition given in Labor & Employment follows Ulmer’s firm-wide honor as Benchmark’s 2018 Ohio “Firm of the Year.” Ulmer’s Litigation Department, which is comprised of more than 90 attorneys who represent clients across the country, is an unprecedented three-time recipient of the award.

Labor & Employment represents the market’s only publication devoted exclusively to ranking and analyzing the leading firms and attorneys in labor and employment litigation in the United States. Benchmark’s selection process encompasses several rigorous phases of research, including firm questionnaires, peer review generated through partner interviews, client reviews, and independent sources.
