Ulmer Promotes Dynamic Partner to Business Litigation Leadership Position

Dolores (Lola) Garcia to lead Ulmer’s group of trial-tested business litigators

September 29, 2021 – Ulmer & Berne LLP announces today the promotion of Partner Dolores (Lola) Garcia to Vice Group Leader of the firm’s nationally recognized Business Litigation Practice Group. In this new role, she joins Partner and Group Leader Paul R. Harris in guiding Ulmer’s team of highly respected business litigators as they deliver top-tier service to clients across the country.

A talented litigator and deeply committed client advocate, Garcia was selected for this position based on her track record of success in challenging litigation matters, her unwavering dedication to her clients, and her demonstrated leadership at Ulmer and beyond.

“Lola is an incredibly effective litigator who is well-respected by clients and peers for her exceptional commitment, superior advocacy, and creative problem solving,” said Michael N. Ungar, Chair of the Litigation Department. “In addition, she is a wonderful person. Lola is an asset to our firm, and her experience has more than prepared her to take on this new leadership role. Together she and Paul make a great team, and their strategic vision, passion, and drive will further accelerate the practice’s continued growth.”

Garcia joined Ulmer’s Business Litigation Practice Group in 2017 after working as an associate at Jones Day and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Ohio’s Civil Division. She earned her undergraduate degree from Grinnell College and her law degree from Harvard Law School. In her practice at Ulmer, she represents organizations of all sizes in state and federal courts, and provides counsel on wide-ranging issues involving business disputes, commercial contract interpretation, and compliance issues.

An active supporter of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Garcia serves on Ulmer’s award-winning DEI Committee, which guides the firm in its diversity efforts and enhances its culture of inclusion, and she also serves on the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. She is a member of the Board of Directors of SPACES, a nonprofit, artist-driven gallery and art incubator in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, and is an active member of the Norman S. Minor Bar Association, having previously served as its Vice President and Treasurer.

In recognition of her legal prowess, Garcia has been named to the Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Stars list and to AmMore Consulting’s list of “100+ Latinos Cleveland Must Know.” Garcia was recently honored with the YWCA Women of Professional Excellence Award, which recognizes the contributions of exceptional women who exemplify high professional standards, contribute significantly to their organizations, and make a positive impact in the community.

Ulmer’s Business Litigation Practice Group has deep experience in the defense and prosecution of clients’ most critical business disputes and is actively engaged in litigation and arbitration matters nationwide. The practice draws on the extensive resources of the firm’s Litigation Department, which is home to more than 100 highly skilled attorneys who partner with clients to determine goals, evaluate risks, and devise proactive and cost-effective solutions designed to vigorously protect their legal rights. Garcia’s promotion follows Ulmer’s recognition as Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 “Ohio Firm of the Year,” an honor the firm has earned for the fifth year in a row and the sixth time in the last eight years.
