Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce that Partner Timothy J. Downing has been appointed to serve on the Alumni Council of Allegheny College. The Alumni Council is the governing body of the college’s Alumni Association, and is dedicated to strengthening the bond between the college and its alumni, students, faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees.
Downing is a nationally recognized litigator who focuses his practice on complex business and employment and labor litigation. For more than two decades, he has helped companies resolve conflicts with their customers and competitors, and has helped them develop and implement policies to attract the best and brightest employees, protect their confidential information, and resolve conflicts with employees who claim to have been discriminated against on the basis of age, race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
In addition to his work with the Alumni Council, Downing remains actively involved in numerous organizations in the community. Presently, he serves as Co-Chair of the national Emeritus Council of the Human Rights Campaign, on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland International Film Festival, and as the President of the Board of Trustees of Great Lakes Theater, Cleveland’s classic theater company. He has also received numerous accolades throughout his career, including recognition as one of The Best Lawyers in America® in Litigation – Labor and Employment every year since 2015 and as an Ohio Super Lawyer, in addition to obtaining the highest possible ranking, AV Preeminent, from Martindale-Hubbell.
The Alumni Council of Allegheny College is a small group of loyal, active alumni who recognize the importance of a vital alumni organization to the growth and strength of the college. Founded in 1815, Allegheny College is a private liberal arts college located in Meadville, Pennsylvania that has approximately 1,800 students.
