Ulmer Honored as Diversity Leader by Profiles in Diversity Journal

March 10, 2020 – Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce that the firm and its Chief Diversity Officer Timothy J. Downing have been honored in Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 12th annual Diversity Leader Awards issue, which recognizes organizations and individuals who are working every day to expand and improve diversity, inclusion, and equity in the workplace and beyond.

In receiving this award, Ulmer and Downing are recognized for viewing both their enterprise and mission through the lens of diversity and demonstrating a strong commitment to upholding and championing diversity values in the workplace. By developing comprehensive strategies that promote diversity at all levels and in every department and division, those receiving this award work to understand the needs of their employees, reach out to diverse vendors, and serve the communities where they work and live, all while meeting the demands of today’s business environment.

“Diversity and inclusion help create the supportive environment at Ulmer that allows us to deliver creative solutions for our clients, and we care deeply about ensuring these values are important parts of our daily life,” said Downing. “We are truly honored to be recognized for the way we embrace different perspectives, cultivate a diverse workforce, and advocate for equity and inclusion in our communities.”

Ulmer’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is spearheaded by Downing in his role as Chief Diversity Officer and by its respected Diversity & Inclusion Committee, chaired by Partner Inajo Davis Chappell. Downing was appointed as Ulmer’s first Chief Diversity Officer last year to provide added momentum to the firm’s successful diversity and inclusion initiatives and to build on its commitment to promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the firm.

As part of their philosophy, leaders at Ulmer believe true diversity and inclusion should extend beyond the walls of the firm. In addition to recruiting, retaining, and advancing attorneys from diverse backgrounds, the firm is dedicated to supporting charities and events that serve as a platform for diverse people and ideas, using diverse vendor programs, and engaging in community outreach through a network of diverse organizations.

“We work hard to put our commitment to diversity and inclusion into action,” said Chappell. “Ulmer has made significant strides with regard to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Our objective is to keep up our momentum and continue building on the progress we have achieved in promoting diversity and inclusion and developing innovative solutions for culture change.”

Now in its 22nd year of publication, Profiles in Diversity Journal highlights the individuals and teams within organizations who create, develop, and promote strategies and initiatives that support diversity, inclusion, and equity in the community.
