Ulmer Earns Recognition as Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 “Ohio Firm of the Year”

April 1, 2021 – Ulmer & Berne LLP established itself again as the leading litigation firm in Ohio earning Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 “Ohio Firm of the Year” award for the fifth year in a row and the sixth time in eight years. Recognized for its strong litigation practice and innovative client advocacy, Ulmer received this outstanding designation at the Benchmark U.S. Virtual Awards Ceremony on March 31 where the nation’s most distinguished litigators and their firms were honored for their work over the last year.

“We are thrilled that Benchmark continues to recognize Ulmer’s litigators as the best in Ohio,” said Scott P. Kadish, Managing Partner. “Our litigation team works tirelessly to deliver our clients strategic counsel both in and out of the courtroom, and receiving this award keeps raising the bar not only for our litigation work in Ohio but in all of Ulmer’s offices across the Midwest and the East Coast.”

Benchmark Litigation bases its awards on six months of in-depth research including extensive interviews with peer litigators and in-house counsel. Michael Rafalowich, Managing Editor of Benchmark, noted in his editorial about the firm that Ulmer is “highly regarded for its team of experienced litigators” and that the firm “offers a wide array of litigation services across Ohio.”

Clients interviewed by Benchmark reported that Ulmer litigators are “extremely knowledgeable,” “provide excellent counsel,” and are “experts on the issues” they face. Ulmer attorneys “consistently handle matters thoroughly and efficiently” and “always have an eye towards minimizing cost” making them “the first names out of my mouth when I’m asked for a recommendation” on a litigation firm.

“When we receive recognition such as this, our first thought is of our clients,” said Michael N. Ungar, Chair of Ulmer’s Litigation Department. “They are the reason we are able to do the work we love and obtain the results that earn us these accolades. We are incredibly grateful to our clients for the trust they continue to place in us and stand reaffirmed in our commitment to provide them with the efficient and skillful counsel they rely on us to deliver.”

Eleven Ulmer litigators were also recently recognized with individual honors from Benchmark. For seven consecutive years, Ungar and Frances Floriano Goins, Partner and Co-Group Leader of Ulmer’s Financial Services & Securities Litigation and Cybersecurity & Privacy Practice Groups, have received notable honors with Ungar ranking among the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America” and Goins ranking nationally in the “Top 250 Women in Litigation.”

Also receiving recognition were Paul J. (PJ) Cosgrove (Co-Group Leader, Product Liability), Jeffrey S. Dunlap (Vice Chair, Litigation Department), Paul R. Harris (Group Leader, Business Litigation), Steven S. Kaufman (Partner, Business Litigation), Linda E. Maichl (Partner, Product Liability), Amanda Martinsek (Partner, Business Litigation), Jeffrey F. Peck (Partner, Product Liability), Frederic X. (Fritz) Shadley (Group Leader, Construction Litigation), and Joseph P. Thomas (Partner, Life Sciences). Additionally, Harris and Joshua A. Klarfeld (Partner, Product Liability) were both named to Benchmark’s “Under 40 Hot List” for the fourth year in a row.
