Ulmer & Berne LLP is proud to announce that Counsel Yvette R. Simpson has been appointed as the incoming chief executive of the national grassroots progressive group Democracy for America (DFA). She will be the first female chief executive and first woman of color to hold an executive leadership role at the organization.
Simpson will take over leadership of DFA effective January 1, 2019. She previously served as the organization’s federal electoral manager and worked to recruit and support a strong, diverse slate of federal candidates in the 2018 midterm elections. This included many candidates who will be sworn in as newly elected members of Congress next year.
“We know that the future is female and that our country is becoming more diverse,” said Simpson. “The leadership of our country, from City Hall to the White House, needs to reflect the life experience and strategic vision of these changing demographics. Representation matters, particularly within political and movement organizations.”
Democracy for America is a member-driven, people-powered progressive political action committee with more than one million members nationwide. Since its inception in 2004, DFA members have raised and contributed more than $62 million and made more than 25 million volunteer calls to help successfully elect more than 1,000 progressive candidates nationwide.
