Ulmer & Berne Partner Patricia A. Shlonsky Receives 2016 Client Choice Award

Ulmer & Berne is proud to announce that Cleveland-based partner Patricia A. Shlonsky has been named a 2016 Client Choice award recipient. Each year, Client Choice, in conjunction with Lexology and International Law Office (ILO), conducts extensive client-based research to find the attorneys around the world who stand out for excellence in client service.

Chair of the Employee Benefits Group and of the Tax Practice Group, Ms. Shlonsky has more than 25 years of experience assisting clients in the establishment, qualification, and maintenance of all types of employee benefit plans. She advises clients regarding employee benefit compliance issues, benefits issues that arise in mergers and acquisitions, privacy and data security issues under HIPAA, health benefits, executive compensation, and represents clients involved in governmental and private dispute resolution. Ms. Shlonsky also has comprehensive experience handling all types of ERISA litigation.

Client Choice evaluates the ability of attorneys to add real value to clients’ businesses above and beyond other players in the market. Uniquely, these awards survey senior corporate counsel only, with this year’s winners chosen from a pool of more than 2,000 individual client assessments. The senior corporate counsel surveyed during the extensive research phase are asked to rate lawyers and law firms on the following criteria: quality of legal advice, value for money, commercial awareness, effective communication, billing transparency, tailored fee structures, response time, sharing of expertise, and use of technology. To ensure that the results cannot be influenced, law firms are not informed when the initial round of research is conducted.

During the research, one client stated, “Patty consistently exceeds expectations; she is the model attorney for clients seeking timely, effective and professional legal representation.” Another added, “She has a gift for communicating legal and regulatory jargon in simple terms. Her discussions focus on the best way to respond to the challenge, rather than getting bogged down in what the regulations say.”

Ms. Shlonsky is ranked as one of Ohio’s leading Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation lawyers by Chambers USA and is named to The Best Lawyers in America® in employee benefits law. Ohio Super Lawyers twice recognized her as one of the Top 25 Female Lawyers in Cleveland. She is an avid reader and author of the book review blog – FromBriefsToBooks.com.

Ms. Shlonsky earned her B.A. from Miami University and her J.D., with honors, from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
