Ulmer & berne LLP partner Joseph P. Thomas is recognized for the ninth consecutive year by Cincy magazine as a Cincinnati Leading Lawyer. To be included in the prestigious list, attorneys must be nominated and voted by other practicing attorneys in the Cincinnati area.
Mr. Thomas is an accomplished litigator and serves as Co-Chair of Ulmer & Berne’s Litigation Department. A licensed pharmacist, he is the Chair of Ulmer & Berne’s Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Practice Groups and is one of the nation’s leading advocates in class-action, multi-district, and mass-tort litigation involving drugs and medical devices. He has served as national defense counsel in numerous high-impact mass tort litigations, including those involving fen/phen, ephedra, ADHD medications, hormone replacement therapy, fentanyl patches, propoxyphene, isotretinoin, metoclopramide, antidepressants, oral contraceptives, and the New England Compounding Pharmacy, among many others.
Mr. Thomas’ unique background as a pharmacist, member of the patent bar and clinical researcher equips him with a deep understanding of the science at work behind the law he practices. Mr. Thomas represents clients across the country and at all levels of litigation, including successfully arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court. His cases and legal arguments have spurred innovative defense techniques that pharmaceutical companies and other product liability defendants still use today.
Mr. Thomas is named to the Ohio Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America lists. He earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Washington State University, his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati and his J.D. from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.
