Award-winning Midwest firm continues to grow full-service office in New York with addition of attorneys Andrew M. Banks and Joshua M. Gottesman
March 11, 2021 – Ulmer & Berne LLP, a law firm with Midwest roots dating back to 1908, announced today the expansion of its footprint in New York with the addition of two new attorneys and the elevation of David A. Landman to Partner-in-Charge of the New York office. Ulmer’s commitment to scaling up its New York presence comes as a result of increased client demand, and will enhance the firm’s ability to serve a growing number of commercial clients with transactional and litigation matters both in the Midwest and on the East Coast.
Landman, who focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation and joined Ulmer in 2020, will manage the firm’s New York office and work with leadership to continue to add bench strength through organic growth. Having outgrown its previous New York office space, the firm also announces the opening of a new office location at 275 Madison Avenue, Suite 2002, New York, New York 10016.
“We are proud of and committed to our Midwest roots, but our clients increasingly have business interests from coast to coast, with a growing concentration in New York and New Jersey,” said Scott P. Kadish, Ulmer’s Managing Partner. “We first gained a foothold in the New York market in early 2020 with the addition of Steve Kaufman and Paul Dehmel, who are both tremendous attorneys, and it’s grown organically from there. Now, under David’s leadership and strategic oversight, our New York office will continue to build on its existing strengths while rapidly adapting to evolving client needs.”
In addition to elevating Landman to Partner-in-Charge in New York, Ulmer has added Andrew M. Banks as counsel and Joshua M. Gottesman as associate in the office.
A transactional attorney with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital transactions, Banks joins Ulmer from O’Melveny & Myers LLP. He will advise public and private companies, private equity and investment funds, and emerging businesses and startup companies on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, as well as investment fund sponsors in fundraising and fund formation matters. He received his LL.B. with first-class honors from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom, and earned an LL.M. in International Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He graduated cum laude with an M.Sc. in International Finance from University of Amsterdam Business School and was also awarded an LL.M. in Corporate Finance & Law from Duisenberg School of Finance in the Netherlands.
Gottesman arrives at Ulmer from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. In his practice, he will represent public and private companies on a variety of corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financing transactions, alternative investments, real estate transactions, fundraising and fund formation, and other general transactional matters. His practice will also focus on counseling corporate clients in the health care industry, including skilled nursing and assisted living facility owners and operators, in purchase, sale, financing, and private placement transactions for long-term care facilities. Gottesman earned his B.A. cum laude from Yeshiva University and his J.D. from New York University Law School.
“Andrew and Joshua are extremely talented attorneys who will bolster our ability – not only in New York, but nationwide – to help our clients achieve their ambitious business goals,” said Landman. “They will fit right in at Ulmer, a firm that combines the Midwest sensibilities of teamwork, respect, and fairness with the bench strength and business sophistication of an AmLaw100 firm.”
