Additions to Business Litigation and Health Care Practice Groups
Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce the addition of two talented and experienced attorneys to the firm. Counsel Shawn J. Gebhardt joins the Business Litigation Practice Group and Associate Ellesha M. LeCluyse joins the Health Care Practice Group. These additions continue Ulmer’s commitment to provide top-quality legal counsel to its clients.
Shawn Gebhardt is an experienced business litigator who joins Ulmer’s Chicago office from Winston & Strawn LLP. His practice focuses on complex commercial and regulatory litigation, and he has unique experience in false advertising and consumer protection matters involving alleged violations of the Organic Foods Protection Act, the Infant Formula Act, and the Lanham Act. Shawn has handled matters at all stages of the litigation process, has conducted internal investigations involving both domestic and foreign companies, and has negotiated with regulators and business competitors.
Shawn is dedicated to providing pro bono service to persons in need, and has represented numerous clients in civil rights, human rights, asylum, and personal injury cases. In 2017, he was honored by the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) as a Rising Star in recognition of his generosity in providing pro bono services in complex immigration cases and his extraordinary commitment to ensuring access to justice. Shawn received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley School of Law, where he served as the Senior Publishing Editor of the California Law Review.
“We’re pleased to have Shawn’s strong litigation skills and deep knowledge of business law here at Ulmer,” said Paul R. Harris, Co-Chair of Ulmer’s Business Litigation Practice Group. “His extensive experience litigating complex business matters allows him to evaluate complicated risks and devise appropriate solutions for our clients, and we respect the commitment he has made to providing access to justice through his pro bono work.”
Ellesha LeCluyse is a skilled health care attorney who joins Ulmer’s Cleveland office from Brennan, Manna & Diamond, LLC in Cleveland, Ohio. She provides counsel to clients including medical practices, long-term care facilities, and other health care entities. She is adept at helping clients navigate complex federal and state health care compliance laws, including the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Ellesha also structures business transactions and joint venture arrangements, drafts tailored employment and contractor agreements, and represents health care providers in state licensure and medical staff disciplinary actions.
Ellesha gives back to the community through her service as a volunteer with MedWish, an international nonprofit that repurposes medical supplies and equipment discarded by the health industry, and as a Brief Advice Clinic volunteer for Community Legal Aid. She received her undergraduate degree from Kansas State University, and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude with a concentration in Health Law.
“Ellesha is a wonderful addition to our Health Care Practice Group,” said Peter A. Rome, Chair of the Ulmer’s Business Department. “Her ability to handle the widespread legal needs of health care businesses and medical providers will be beneficial to our clients. Our health care attorneys have tremendous experience in helping our clients achieve their business objectives, and we’re happy to have Ellesha as part of Ulmer’s team.”
