Ulmer Adds New York Partner to Thriving Health Care Team

Strategic hire reflects group’s full-service capabilities and growing client demand

April 14, 2022 – Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Michael L. Gurman as a Partner in the firm’s Health Care Practice Group. Gurman joins Ulmer’s New York office where he will continue his practice focusing on the diverse legal needs of clients in the health care industry.

Gurman is an accomplished health care and corporate attorney who represents a broad spectrum of clients, including skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, imaging centers, home health care agencies, management services organizations, and physician practices. He has extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions, equity investments, and other strategic business transactions, and works to ensure they are structured in accordance with federal and state physician self-referral laws, anti-kickback laws, and other applicable regulations.

He regularly provides outside counsel to a variety of entities, including nursing home operators and large physician practices, and handles their formation, operations, general business, and commercial matters. He also assists with the negotiation and drafting of complex agreements, from employment and independent contractor agreements to administrative and vendor services contracts, and provides oversight with corporate compliance and risk management.

Licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey, Gurman is recognized for his legal talent across the New York metropolitan area. He has been named to the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch list for Health Care Law, and to the New York Super Lawyers list of Rising Stars every year since 2014. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Massachusetts and his J.D. with honors from the Boston University School of Law.
