The World Trademark Review (WTR) has recognized Ulmer & Berne LLP partners Thomas M. Williams and Michael A. Marrero in its “WTR 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals” rankings. WTR is the world’s only independent multimedia publication dedicated exclusively to reporting on trademark issues. This marks the seventh consecutive year that Mr. Williams was recognized by WTR and the third for Mr. Marrero.
An accomplished litigator, Mr. Williams litigates trademark and unfair competition disputes on behalf of a number of the world’s largest and most sophisticated brands. He also manages prosecution and maintenance of global trademark portfolios. He has extensive experience representing clients in all aspects of trademark and unfair competition law including trademark infringement, trade dress, dilution, and false advertising litigation. Mr. Williams regularly represents clients before federal district and appellate courts in asserting and defending against trademark infringement claims. He also represents clients in proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Williams is the author of “False Advertising and the Lanham Act,” published by LexisNexis.
Mr. Marrero concentrates his practice in trademark law and has extensive experience with trademark clearance, prosecuting trademark applications and office actions before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, opposition and cancellation actions, and litigation. His expertise also extends to copyrights and licensing, business planning, shareholder and investor relationships, mergers and acquisitions, cybersecurity and data privacy, advertising and promotional law, and administrative law. He represents closely held corporations in business matters, venture-capital funding, acquisitions, and divestitures. Mr. Marrero also co-chairs the firm’s Cybersecurity & Privacy Group.
