July 15, 2022 – Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to share that Sachin V. Java, an associate in the firm’s Cleveland office, has been selected to the 2022-2024 class of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Fellows Program. The Fellows Program offers young lawyers, lawyers of color, lawyers with disabilities and LGBTQ+ lawyers the opportunity to engage in unique leadership roles, mentorships, and subsidized attendance at the Section’s meetings.
Each year, the ABA Business Law Section appoints up to 12 diverse, outstanding lawyers to participate in two-year terms as Fellows. The Program is highly selective, requires an extensive application process, and Fellows are chosen based on demonstrated leadership experience.
The ABA Business Law Section is a global network of almost 40,000 business law professionals with over 50 substantive committees covering almost every business law practice area. Its members utilize the section’s many resources and benefits to expand their knowledge, develop a professional network and advance their careers. As a Business Law Fellow, Java will be provided a path to develop as a future leader of the Business Law Section of the ABA by participating in various committee activities and building connections with section leaders.
Java has been a dedicated ABA Business Law section member for several years. In addition, he is an active member of several bar associations, serving on the Council on Conscious Inclusion, and the Ethics and Professionalism Committee respectively for the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, as the President Elect of the Asian American Bar Association of Ohio, and as Treasurer of the South Asian Bar Association of Ohio. Furthermore, he is also highly involved in the community through his volunteer work including serving on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Animal Protective League, as a Volunteer Attorney with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), and as an Alumni Mentor for the Cleveland State University Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association.
In his legal practice, Java focuses on corporate law matters including business counseling, mergers and acquisitions, and health care regulatory compliance. Working with clients in the health care industry on a variety of transactional matters, he is experienced with commercial contracts, corporate formation, governance and compliance, and divestitures, as well as health care issues such as operations transfers, change of ownership matters, and compliance with federal and state fraud and abuse laws.
