Ulmer & Berne LLP announced the election of Michael N. Ungar and Patricia A. Shlonsky to the firm’s seven-member Management Committee, effective January 1, 2015. Ulmer & Berne’s Management Committee is responsible for guiding the operations and strategic direction of the firm.
Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department and a Past President of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Mr. Ungar’s practice encompasses a broad range of general business disputes with a focus on commercial, banking, professional liability, securities, and broker-dealer matters, including arbitrations, class actions, and other types of complex litigation. He also frequently serves as a mediator and arbitrator in complex disputes.
Mr. Ungar is ranked the 2015 number one lawyer in the State of Ohio by Super Lawyers, an honor he has received for the third consecutive year. Benchmark Litigation 2015 has ranked him as one of the top 100 Trial Lawyers in the country, as well as a “state litigation star”. He is also ranked in Band 1 (the highest of six bands) of Chambers USA, as one of Ohio’s leading general commercial litigation attorneys. Mr. Ungar earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law and holds a B.A., cum laude, from Boston University.
Chair of the Employee Benefits and Tax Practice Groups, Ms. Shlonsky has more than 25 years of experience assisting clients in the establishment, qualification and maintenance of all types of employee benefit plans. She advises clients regarding employee benefit compliance issues, benefits issues which arise in mergers and acquisitions, privacy and data security issues under HIPAA, and represents clients involved in governmental and private dispute resolution. Ms. Shlonsky also handles all types of ERISA litigation.
Ms. Shlonsky is ranked as one of Ohio’s leading Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation lawyers by Chambers USA and is named the 2015 “Lawyer of the Year” in Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law by The Best Lawyers in America.
