Seminar on Opportunity Zone Regulations

Ulmer & Berne LLP, together with Cohen & Company, hosted a breakfast panel discussion on December 5, 2018, regarding the release of the highly-anticipated and long-awaited proposed regulations to accompany the Opportunity Zone program.

This federal program, which was announced at the end of last year as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, creates a tax incentive to encourage investment in economically-distressed communities. After taking a deep dive into the proposed regulations, Ulmer attorneys and Cohen professionals shared their analysis.

Attendees of this discussion benefitted from the insights of:

  • Mary Forbes Lovett, Ulmer Partner and Chair of the Real Estate Group, who shared the real estate developer’s perspective;
  • Fred N. Widen, Ulmer Partner in the Tax Group, who addressed fund formation and shared the investor’s perspective;
  • Adam Hill, CPA, Partner-in-Charge, Real Estate & Construction, Cohen & Company, who gave an overview of the Opportunity Zone program; and
  • Adam R. Watowicz, Ulmer Associate in the Tax Group, who moderated the discussion.
