CLEVELAND (June 9, 2010) — Ulmer & Berne LLP announced today that Melissa L. Zujkowski received the Justice for All (JFA) Volunteer of the Year Award presented by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA) for her pro bono service. Ms. Zujkowski has been an active volunteer in the Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance Program for more than four years.
According to the CMBA, Ms. Zujkowski has served as Chair of the Homeless Program Subcommittee of the JFA for the past two years, and has been instrumental in developing and facilitating new administrative protocols as the program transitioned from an administrative model with a part-time paid lawyer-director to a committee- and volunteer-led initiative. In her role as a volunteer leader of the program, she has taken on primary responsibility for program administration, including communications to the volunteers and referrals for clients who need further services. Ms. Zujkowski also worked on the development of Ulmer & Berne’s Pro Bono Landlord-Tenant Program. Additionally, she gives substantial time in service to Legal Aid’s Volunteer Lawyers program along with volunteer recruitment at Ulmer & Berne.
As an attorney with Ulmer & Berne, Ms. Zujkowski’s practice focuses on complex corporate and commercial litigation in federal and state courts throughout Ohio and the Midwest region. She also works extensively on class action litigation as it relates to state and federal banking and consumer lending laws. Her experience covers virtually all aspects of discovery and trial preparation, including taking and defending depositions, motion practice, and the preparation of fact and expert witnesses for trial. In addition, she advises clients on prelitigation matters. Ms. Zujkowski received her J.D., cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and her B.A. from Northwestern University.
