Professional Development
Ulmer & Berne’s dedication to professional development may be promised in our policy, “Commitment to Education and Professional Development,” but it is proven by the continual presence of multi-faceted services that provide legal and professional training for our attorneys. The firm’s impressive array of programs include summer associate and first-year mentoring, long-term orientations, substantive legal in-house training programs, monthly practice group meetings, skills training programs, seminar and conference registrations and daily contact with our distinguished team of attorneys.
In order to assess the professional success and development of our attorneys, we employ an extensive evaluation process. The firm considers the roles of mentor and student equally important in developing valuable professionals, and therefore utilizes evaluations both of associates by partners and partners of associates to appraise our professional development success. These unique "reverse" evaluations allow us to gauge the efficacy of partners as trainers, mentors and role models; associates provide the necessary anonymous feedback to partners and other senior level attorneys, thereby instructing the senior level attorneys how to create an effective culture of learning.
