Paul has litigated a wide range of business and employment matters.  He has obtained defense verdicts as lead counsel and obtained dismissals or favorable settlements in other matters.  He also has appellate experience, including oral arguments before the Eighth District Court of Appeals.  Paul has extensive experience in both state and federal courts in and outside of Ohio.  He represents a variety of businesses in litigation but also counsels businesses on practices to avoid litigation.

Representative Experience
  • Obtained defense verdicts as lead counsel in trials in Ohio county and municipal courts.
  • Successfully argued in three hearings before Ohio county courts for enforcement of arbitration clauses and dismissal of individual and class action cases to arbitration.
  • Argued to the Eighth District Court of Appeals, including class action and consumer claims.
  • Extensive experience defending claims brought against suppliers under Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act (CSPA).
  • Extensive experience defending class action claims, including class claims under the CSPA.
  • Extensive experience defending discrimination and other employment claims brought by current and former employees.

  • Assisted in representation of both companies and individuals in the pursuit of patent and copyright protection.
  • Defended automobile dealership against two copyright infringement claims brought by high profile composers and performers.
  • Represented and advised documentary film production company from inception through production of the movie.
  • Assisted in representation of multinational tech company, national credit card company, national and regional banks, development companies, insurance providers, and others in defense of discrimination and other employment claims.
  • Assisted in representation of a national securities firm and members of its regional management team in defense of claims of wrongful discharge, defamation, breach of contract and infliction of emotional distress brought by a former employee seeking compensatory damages in excess of $2.7 million.  After a full evidentiary hearing on the merits, all claims against our clients were dismissed, and our corporate client was awarded the full amount of damages sought on its counterclaim.
  • Assisted in representation of NFL players in actions brought against them by a former NFL player who claimed he loaned them money.  Obtained dismissal of each case.
  • Represented state agencies in defense of actions brought by former employees seeking workers’ compensation benefits.  Conducted numerous depositions of plaintiffs and experts, leading to dismissal of some cases and favorable settlements in others.
  • Litigated numerous asbestos-related claims from inception through resolution as Special Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General representing the Defendant Administrator, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
  • Represented regional trucking company, scrap metal company, and other manufacturing entities in defense of claims.
  • Extensive experience representing companies of all sizes, from individual proprietorships to large, national corporations.
  • Participant in legal aid and court-sponsored pro bono programs.
