CLEVELAND (September 4, 2007) — Ulmer & Berne LLP announced today that one of its partners, Inajo Davis Chappell, has been appointed by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner as one of three election officials to the Board of Voting Machine Examiners. Under state law, board members serve during the secretary of state’s term and are responsible for examining voting systems to ensure they meet all legal criteria. In addition, board members will make recommendations to the secretary of state on which voting systems should be certified and decertified for use.
Ms. Chappell chairs the firm’s Nonprofit Group. She represents for-profit businesses as well as public institutions and nonprofit entities. Her legal expertise focuses on various aspects of corporate law, general business and real estate development, construction, financing and contracts. Ms. Chappell has served as bond and company counsel to a variety of government and corporate clients. She has particular expertise representing school districts in the provision of educational programming and services to disabled students. An active civic and community volunteer, she serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. In April, Ms. Chappell was appointed to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
