COLUMBUS (February 21, 2008) — Ulmer & Berne LLP, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year, announced the appointment of Sherry L. Hesselbein to the Board of Directors of Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD). Ms. Hesselbein will serve as Board Secretary for a two-year term.
WELD addresses the issues of economic development for women. With over 185 individual and corporate members, WELD provides women with specific tools and skills needed to advance their economic status. They also advocate for corporate strategy and public policy supporting women’s economic equality.
As an attorney with Ulmer & Berne, Ms. Hesselbein practices in all aspects of environmental law, including air, water, hazardous waste, solid waste, oil and mineral rights, and agriculture. She has represented clients in litigation, transactions, and regulatory compliance. Her practice includes defending clients against allegations brought by the state or federal government. Ms. Hesselbein has also assisted clients in evaluating their facility’s compliance with environmental laws. Another aspect of her practice includes advising clients regarding sustainability and green development and operation. Ms. Hesselbein’s previous experience includes working with the Environmental Enforcement Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. She earned a B.S. in Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
