Brad has over 30 years of combined engineering and legal experience.  His extensive engineering background complements his practice that focuses on patent procurement, patentability analyses and opinions and freedom-to-operate analyses and opinions, in a wide variety of mechanical technologies.  He has counseled individual and corporate clients on a variety of patent law issues.  During his career, Brad has served as an IP counsel for law firms and a Fortune 1000 Corporation.

Representative Experience
  • Managed freedom-to-operate programs regarding a variety of healthcare products including beds, mattresses and other non-invasive medical devices during tenure as in-house IP counsel for a Fortune 1000 Corporation.  Provided legal advice concerning various patent law issues to executive management, engineering, marketing and sales personnel.  Led cross-functional teams that developed enterprise-wide IP policy and procedures regarding freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for a Fortune 100 Corporation regarding a wide variety of jet engine components.
  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for multiple corporations, including a Fortune 500 Corporation, regarding devices used in the automotive industry.
  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for a Fortune 500 Corporation regarding devices and processes used in the paper and pulp industry.
  • Conducted freedom-to-operate analyses and prepared patent applications for a Fortune 1000 Corporation regarding spinal implants and associated tools.
  • Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for a number of other corporate clients. Technologies included: ceiling fans and other home appliances; vehicles used in underground mines; devices used in medical fluid dispensing systems; and structures and tools used in home construction industry.
  • Worked as an engineer for over 16 years in the jet engine segment of the aerospace industry.  Positions included: test operations engineer in both rocket and jet engine test areas; mechanical design engineer responsible for a variety of low pressure and high pressure turbine components of jet engines; systems engineer functioning as a member of a team managing the development and certification of a new jet engine.
