Cincinnati was home to the first professional baseball franchise in 1869; now known as the Reds, the team's original name was the Cincinnati Red Stockings.

Proctor & Gamble began manufacturing Ivory Soap in a Cincinnati factory in 1879; production was later moved to a part of the city now known as “Ivorydale.”
